Established in 1973, it is accredited from NAAC and it is affiliated to Kumaun University. Government Post Graduate College, Ranikhet was founded by the Uttar Pradesh Government in 1973 with just on Bachelor of Arts course. Since then the college has gone through many changes and developments to meet the requirements of the youth of this region. Govt Post Graduate College Ranikhet situted in the lush green medows of Chilyanaula Ranikhet got B grade in 2004 by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) Located in the Peaceful valley and away from the main city provide the best atmosphere for studies. P. G. College Ranikhet has started many professional courses ,Uttarakhand Open University Centre & IGNOU Centre.
Ranikhet is a hill station and cantonment town in Almora district, Ranikhet is a Cantonment Area having Kumaon Regiment (KRC) and Naga Regiment.

He was a renowned freedom fighter who participated in 1942 Quit India Movement in Kumaun region. He was an important member of Congress Socialist party and editor of ‘PrajaBandhu’ weekly magazine published from Ranikhet.

History :
Lost into oblivion for long, the picturesque hill station was rediscovered by the Britishers.  In 1829, the British established the headquarters of the Kumaon Regiment here and used the station as a retreat from the heat  of the Indian summer.  The main city of Ranikhet is fairly crowded but the military area offers serene environment.
